CCBC Dundalk Splits Road Doubleheader with Anne Arundel Community College

by Tyriq D. Smith

CCBC Dundalk earned a hard-fought series split on Tuesday, April 22, against Anne Arundel Community College, dropping game one 11-2 before bouncing back with a 4-2 victory in the second game. The Lions now sit at 5-25 overall and 4-23 in conference play as they continue to push through the back half of the season.

Game 1 Recap
Anne Arundel took early command of game one, putting up five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never relinquishing the lead. The Riverhawks capitalized on several CCBC Dundalk miscues, including five total errors in the field, which led to a number of unearned runs. A bases-clearing double in the opening frame set the tone, and Anne Arundel added two more runs in the second before breaking things open again with four runs in the fifth. The Lion's only offense came in the second inning, when Sung Kim delivered a two-run double to left that plated Kaleb Weeks and Lucas Hursey. Coreem Wright had a solid showing at the plate, collecting two of the team's six hits. Jeremy Tirschman was charged with the loss, allowing 11 runs (only five earned) across 4.2 innings of work. Despite the final score, Carter Costango came in and closed out the final 1.1 innings without allowing a run.

Game 2 Recap
In game two, CCBC Dundalk flipped the script and delivered one of their most complete performances of the season. Trailing 2-0 after Anne Arundel scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, the Lions came alive late. In the top of the sixth, Coreem Wright delivered a clutch two-run home run to left field, tying the game and swinging momentum in Dundalk's favor. The very next inning, Sung Kim stepped up again with a two-RBI single to center, scoring Jeremy Tirschman and Lucas Hursey and putting the Lions ahead 4-2. From there, pitcher Ricky Montelongo closed the door, tossing a complete game gem. The right-hander scattered six hits and allowed just two earned runs over seven innings while striking out two and walking one in a highly efficient 100-pitch outing. Hursey also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, helping spark the offense in the late innings.

The win in game two not only helped Dundalk avoid the sweep but also showed the team's resilience and ability to bounce back in tough spots. They'll look to build on that momentum heading into the next stretch of conference play.
